The SRM (Special Refund Mechanism) that was created by the Central Bank that allows paying and receiving banks to partially or fully return the value of a payment already made.

MED makes refunds in scenarios of fraud or operational failure. As it is carried out between Pix participants, it makes it easier for the victim of fraud or process failure to recover the amounts more quickly, within 80 days from receipt of the transaction.

Refunds initiated by the user cannot used the SRM, and must follow the Refund Flow .

Creating a refund

This functionality allows indirect participants to create a refund request sent to another bank, if the PSP was the payer of the transaction.

Canceling refund requests

This functionality allows participants to cancel the refund request that has been created. Note: Only the participant who created the refund request will be able to cancel it.

Closing refund requests

If the indirect participant is the contested party whose refund request was addressed, then this functionality can close the request, as long as it is 'OPEN'.
